Caravan Gas Dangers

Caravans, RV's and Fifth wheelers:

Buyers beware: We have witness Caravan owners who have purchased their caravans from NSW and other states as well from overseas.

Only to find the gas appliances and or the gas pipework, is either unsafe or NOT compliant. in some cases the cost to rectify the dangerous situation could be $1,000's .

What is the solution?

Have the gas equipment and systems checked by a qualified gas fitter or QGA certifer before you purchase the RV , Fifth wheeler or caravan.
Ask the seller to have the Van registered in QLD first
All the gas equipment must be certified QGA, AGA or Gas Water marks and the gas fitter must supply a Gas Certificate for the van before the van maybe registered in QLD.
If you purchase a van from the USA or over seas- you will need to budget around $800 approximately for each piece of gas equipment for gas approvals and gas piping , gas regulators and ventilation alterations.
Take the van to a reputable repairer who specialise in van repairs , in particular gas- We work with Caboolture Caravans Repairs - Adrian. They complete the full modifications, and we complete the QGA certification where required.

Some of the issues we have seen to date-

An approved instantaneous hot water system installed illegally 30 Cm away from the sleeping area, NO ventilation - A extremely dangerous situation/ The van was approved in NSW and was not compliant to the national codes- A Gas Defect Notice was given, the van was fixed and the owner was saved from a potential fatelity.
Incorrect ventilation is common, considering the dangers of suffocation , this is a serious issue with many caravans.
Many Plumber/ Gas fitters do not understand the rules and regulations with Caravan installations- Only use an experienced Gas fitterwith carvan systems- Like Caboolture Caravan Repairs, Steve Rycroft - CADGAS Pty Ltd and there are more.
